ST. BERNARDUS ABT 12 from Brouwerij St. Bernard is a traditional abbey ale brewed in the classic style of Belgium's Trappist Monks. It is almost ebony in colour, smooth, creamy and full bodied with big richness of texture that is almost oily and very assertive, like a warming coconut brandy. Full bodied and rich, dark chocolate-bitter, Dark Abbey beer

Simply excellent By Justin
Karl (before me) is absolutely right. I love strong, dark Belgian beers with malty, caramel and toffee flavours, and I have been working my way through them to find the best. I avoid the ones that are a bit phenolic - some would say herby! This one is up at the top, joint first place with Rochefort 10 - huge amounts of well rounded flavours; simply delicious.

Amazing By Karl
I have been told that Westvleteren is the greatest beer in the world, having not had the chance yet to try this as it cannot be imported, I have to say for me Abt12 is the best beer I have tried in 20 years of drinking responsibily! Dont be put off by a label that looks like it's something from the 60's or 70's, it's what lies within that matters.
This is a deep deep amber beer that gives a lovely thick head when poured.
One of the most complex tasting beers I have ever tried, but having said that it all works well together. Bags of malt and fruits and spice in here. If you like your real ales in the UK particularly the darker ales, don't let the alcohol content in this put you off, this is beer that can be drank and savoured like a fine wine. You can spend a night savouring this, it is very morish too.
