Oude Kriek sits between the normal Boon Kriek and Mariage Parfait. It is made by mixing 400 grams of real cherries to one year old lambic (per litre). After it has matured, it starts to taste similar to port or Madeira wine. The bottles are corked. At the Brussels Beer Challenge 2018, it was awarded a silver beer medal for the category of Old Style Fruit-Lambic. In 2019, it was awarded a bronze medal at the World Beer Awards for the category of “World’s Best Kriek”.
Boon produces some of the best sour or lambic beers in the world. Exposed to natural yeasts in the air and left to ferment in giant (and we mean giant) oak barrels, it is the most natural way to make beer and yields a depth of flavour not found in any other style.
