St. Bernardus Christmas Ale is the youngest descendant in the illustrious family of delicious Abbey Ales by Brewery St. Bernardus. This specialty beer of 10% alc. vol. is characterized by its deep dark colour, with a creamy, thick head and a full, almost velvety taste and a fruity nose. It's a seasonal ale, brewed annually for the holiday season. St Bernardus has a history which is connected to two Trappist breweries, Mont Des Cats (Cheese) and the infamous Westvleteren (Beer). Shortly after the second world war the Trappist monastry St Sixtus in Westvleteren was looking to commercialise their beers, in step St Bernardus.

Just... alright, I guess.I was looking forward to trying this beer, but it turned out to be a slight disappointment. It's not particularly bad, and didn't leave me with a headache or anything like that, but it just didn't taste anything special. Not too sweet, not too spicy.

Super Chrismassy!This is quite rich with liquorice and aniseed alongside some jammy fruit flavours.

Best Christmas BeerThis is beer is quite complex. You could get notes of dried fruits, spices, apple, caramel, dates, orange peel, raisins but also coriander, banana, ginger... All that in a rich dark bready and slightly bitter Christmas beer.

Fantastic Christmas aleFirst of this years bottles for me. Fantastic. Caramel and spice flavours and really smooth. Better than the 2020. The 10% doesn't show
