A classic Belgian style, tripel beers are a strong, pale-coloured style of beer, top-fermented and boasting a sweet, malty flavour bursting with fruit. All the best and brightest breweries in the Low Countries have a Belgian tripel in their arsenals – such as Westmalle, Abbaye de Scourmont (Chimay), and Abbaye de Rochefort – and you can find them all in our range below. Belgian tripels are strong golden ales. They’re laden with hoppy, yeasty notes that rise over their sweet, bready and malty bases. Due to the yeasts used, it’s common to find fruity notes like banana, spices like clove, and herbiness like coriander, all coming to a smooth, clean finish.
Legend has it the Belgian tripel style was invented by monks at Trappist brewery Westmalle, though beer aficionados are still split on when and where tripels were exactly born, or even the meaning of the name (though it’s likely the ABV has something to do with it!).
