Compared to pale wheat beer, dark wheat beer has a greater dark malted wheat content, hence its enticing chestnut brown colour. The substantial original gravity gives it its irresistibly pleasant taste, while its fresh, strong aroma reveals a hint of roasted malt.
Established in the early 17th century by the Paulaner monks, the brewery caused quite a splash with its first beer. Their first beer, a strong bock called Salvator, was so delicious and successful that other local breweries wrote to the council asking for them to restrict its sale to save others from closing.
A very enjoyable dark beer. Paulaner quality shines through.

A good tasting dark wheat beer with plenty of maltiness. Colour is more of a brown than really dark, but it's the taste that counts.

As expected, a real difference from the Weisse. For the odd occasion yes, but not a regular go to for me.

We're big Paulaner Weisse fans and do like dark beers too. This was unexpected. Not to say it's not a well crafted beer but it was not dark, more like a dark brown. A very sweet malty taste with some dry hops. If you like malty beers then it's for you.
