Straffe Hendrik, Tripel 9 is a traditional top-fermentation beer that referments in the bottle a blond speciality. Pairs well with sweet hot or spicy food
Brewed at the Halve Maan brewery in Bruges, this tripel is a stunning example of the style. With lots of bready sweetness and shedloads of stone fruit aromas from the yeast, it’s a complex beer that starts sweet and finishes with a fizzy herbal bitterness from the saaz hop that just leaps off the tongue.
The Halve Maan is home to two fantastic beer brands – Bruges Zot and Straffe Hendrik. Bruges Zot, which is a reference to the nickname "Bruges fools" given to the townsfolk, produces one of Belgium's best loved golden ales and a fantastic raisin and plummy brun.
The Halve Maan brewery, within the bounds of the city of Bruges, makes two exceptional beers. Straffe Hendrik is one of these, the 9% Tripel is a clear golden colour even though it undergoes refermentation in the bottle. It is not cloyingly sweet nor bitterly overhopped and is a very pleasant, but rather strong 'special occasion' beer.

We discovered this beer when we visited Brugge on our 20th wedding anniversary. I can honestly say this is the best beer I have ever drunk and is still my all time favourite
