If you love beer, it must be on your bucket list. Every year a whole other town springs up inside Munich, and hundreds of thousand of people head there to drink 6% lager til their guts burst. And that's what Jonny from the Craft Beer Channel did.

So what is a Baltic porter? Well, lets look at the history, during the 1700 and 1800s it was one of the most popular brews around, and it did keep going in various forms, however after World War 2, The Western culture had forgot about the style, and it was not until the fall of the Iron Curtain it began to become popular and have a resurgence, especially in the Baltic porter breweries in Germany in the 1990s.

...So what is a Baltic Porter?

So what is the magic of Cantillon and why is it so in demand? Mulling over some dark corners of the internet and actually taking the time to read comments from some hard-line Cantillon fans on indie beer forums it would seem their are a number of reasons.... Well i think for starters people like it keeps everything in house/ traditional and family run. (Cantillon is still family owned. Jean-Pierre Van Roy – a fourth-generation brewer – currently runs Cantillon) It is based in Anderlecht, Brussels, where it churns out some of the most sought after lambics around and does not sell to just anyone.

Tucked away in the quaint little east Sussex town of Lewes, by the sea, is a magical little brewery called: BEAK In their own words: "Conceived as a ‘nomadic’ project, The Beak has spent several years creating unfiltered, seasonally-inspired beer with friends at some the greatest UK breweries, including North Brew Co, Partizan, Beavertown, Burning Sky and Northern Monk." This special little brewery has made a real impression across the board in the world of beer, and working with some of the biggest names in the business it certainly can boast why. The little close knit team, has given back to its roots and as they have grown they have hunkered down in Lewes.

Põhjala was started at the end of 2011, it was four Estonian friends that got together and decided they wanted to make beer they enjoyed. The Estonia craft beer scene at the time was non-existent but these guys where tenacious and had a vision, so to understand how a brewery operated better they decided to go to do an internship down in Scotland at Brewdog. It was here in Scotland and during the internship they met Chris Pilkington, who was curious of their plans to expand the craft beer scene in Estonia. Curiosity turned into a beautiful partnership, after a few visits and I’m sure some late-night beers, Chris was sold on the vision. He joined Põhjala and became Head Brewer and moved to Estonia. After some months of homebrewing and product development their first beer called Öö (translation Night) in February 2013 was born.
