Genever Gin

Genever Gin

You’d be forgiven for thinking that beer is the national drink of Belgium, but actually it’s a historic form of gin called Genever. Like beer it is made from malt, but distilled to around 50% and flavoured with juniper. It is also the national drink of the Netherlands, and some claim it is the origin of the term Dutch Courage, and was drunk before battle. It is still as popular as ever in the lowland countries, with Genever bars in most big cities selling all kinds of flavours to those looking for a break from beer.
