The Netherlands is known mostly in beer circles for it's pale lagers. This is because it has some of the best water to brew with and access to fresh local ingredients, not the mention good sea routes for strong export markets. What people do forget though is that the Netherlands is also home to 2 out of the 10 official Trappist breweries in the world. La Trappe is brewed in the Netherlands as is De Kievit. The county has strong brewing links with Belgium and shares some its styles with Belgium. There is a small movement for newer craft beer styles and people are enjoying more international beers in the Netherlands than ever before now. The country whilst being quite small is the largest exporter of beer in the world and people around the country all have their own local favourites of beer.
