De Kluis brew the world's most famous wit beer, Hoegaarden. The beer was invented in 1966, and based on a recipe that tried to emulate the wonderul clove and banana aromas of the German weiss biers. In that it failed, but by using Belgian yeast and lots of coriander seeds and curacao orange peel they invented a new and wonderful style that has been adopted by breweries all over the world. Hoegaarden still stands up to many of them, and makes a delicious summer beer.
