Craig Allan - Agent Provocateur

Decades of consolidation and rationalisation in the brewing industry led in many countries to beer being regarded as the poor relation to wine, a drink to slake a thirst and nothing more. The craft brewing movement that took roots in the seventies was a reaction to the dismal choice available to consumers, particularly in the UK and the USA...

...Today the emergence of a vibrant craft brewing scene and beer culture has transformed the beer landscape. In America the choice available is truly bewildering and even some countries without a strong, traditional brewing heritage, like Italy, have an impressive new generation of brewers and bars specialised to sell their wares...

Craig graduated in Malting, Brewing and Distilling science in Edinburgh, Scotland and has since spent the last ten years brewing craft beer in various Scottish microbreweries, selecting and selling malt whisky for an independent whisky bottler and, just for good measure, working in vineyards and wineries in the Côte d'Or in Burgundy. These various experiences have allowed him to put into practice his knowledge and to learn different techniques and philosophies....

...Despite the burgeoning craft brewing scene in Britain the heavy weight of centuries of tradition has limited creativity and imposed constraints on what can be brewed in the UK. Frustrated with the inability to brew the beers he himself wanted to drink there was only one thing for it - Craig needed to set up on his own. Inspired by the flair and experimentation of some of the great American craft brewers (and an increasing number of European brewers) Craig Allan wants to brew beers packed with the flavour and aroma of the finest, freshest ingredients and to introduce to as many people the myriad possibilities craft brewing can offer. Great craft beer is equal to fine wine - what better a place to prove it than in France!
