Originally founded in 1328, Munich's Augustiner Bräu is one of Germany's oldest breweries, drawing on nearly 700 years if brewing heritage. This mastery is demonstrated throughout its range, including Augustiner Dunkel.
Pouring deep amber beneath a creamy head, you'll be treated to big pumpernickel malts with a backdrop of herbal hops. This classic character is echoed on the tongue, with more dark roast malts, as well as liquorice, and cola notes, and a dryness that lifts the whole experience to a pleasingly crisp finish.
Augustiner Helles Bier is widely regarded as one of the best lagers in the world, and it's hard to argue, especially if you’ve had it straight from the barrel in Munich. From the bottle it's nearly as good, as is their Edelstoff, a stronger premium beer.
Enjoyed this one, got some good flavour and not too high alcohol.

Pleasantly sweet and tasty dunkel

It's a little different from Erdinger dunkel. There's a less hoppy ,smooth and slightly caramel sweetness- but not too much. If you've tried Samuel Smith Stingo it's on those lines but not as strong so very drinkable and enjoyable. So it's got a bit of English brown ales hints but not heavy and definitely a quality German pedigree

Notes of Kitul treacle and sour berries. Very sweet, mildly acidic front. Thin in actual density. Spice of hops and natural consistent carbonation give a rich, cleansing mouthfeel (like coke). Very strong fruitiness (of sour berries). Non-cloying, refreshing, sparkling. A bit of bready, roasty flavours, but not that malty. Surprisingly dry finish leaving mild bitterness back in the mouth. When left opened, alcoholic vapours start to develop similar to Cognac etc. Beautiful, almost ruby-like red/brown colour. Very transparent.

Right up there with the Paulaner Dunkel. A cracking beer, full of flavour.
