About this product
Rochefort is one of the most famous and revered breweries in the world and makes three stunning beers. The 8 is a dark Trappist dubbel, with a gorgeous dark copper colour and big aromas of raisins, dates and banana. It’s smooth and slightly sweet before the drier, herbal finish. Brilliant with cheese and stews, it’s a great warming ale.

    The world's finest armchair ale.
    Quality

This really is a different beer, it's strong (at 9.2%) and a dark red/brown colour. It doesn't taste over-sweet and the ingredients on the label include 'spices' which they don't name. Tim Webb & Joe Stange in CAMRA's Good (Belgian) Beer Guide mention 'a subtle dab of coriander' and describe this beer as 'the world's finest armchair ale'. I bow to their superior taste buds in the former and agree wholeheartedly to their assessment in the latter. This is the first warm day we've had this year (it's early May) and I've been out in the garden completing a few jobs I've been putting off until the warmer weather arrived. I felt like a beer when I had been too weary to carry on; this beer put me in mind of being feet up in front of a roaring log fire when there was snow on the ground outside! I'm not going to wait until winter to taste some more Rochefort 8 but I will ensure I've saved a couple of bottles at the back end of Autumn for when the fire is roaring in the grate. A superb Trappiste dubbel you should try.
